Title: After Earth
Running Time: 95 Minute
Synopsis:-A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
Apologies for the late review, guess most have already watched it but I am doing it anyway. :)
What do I think about it:-
One of those beautifully crafted CGI unable to be backed by an engaging story that makes you dream of space travel and instead it tries to get you emotionally bonded with the only two rememberable characters in the movie, a father and son drama in space.
Predictability is blood on the hands of almost every hollywood director these days despite being a M.Shyamalan flick ( was hoping for a stupidly forceful twist) instead I get boy saves father and himself.
I was annoyed with the acting the whole time, while many can argue that it was the nature of the characters ( A dad without fear or emotion + A cowardly jittery teenage boy trying to prove himself) it didn't had any convincing element at all becase everything was so forced... I am a fan of Will Smith but I also know when my favored actor is ready to either retire of go back to his roots so it was a pain for me to follow through this film that was clearly written (credited) by Will Smith in hopes of boosting his kid to stardom. #notconvincing
To sum it all up, I felt like I was watching a high budgetted and fully scripted reality TV shoe for surviving in the while. 95 minutes was too short to have any decent character development and engagement and I found myself rooting for the URSA to kill them. *evil*
Rating: 0.5/5 - Why go for this when you have something else better to do, like gardening.
Note*: Did not expect a Class 1 Quarantine planet to feel like a Safari Zoo.

Title: Man Of Steel
Running Time: 142 Minute
Synopsis:-A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind. - GSC
Consider yourself being thrown into a loop of what some people might believe to be incredibly smart story telling but in truth it's just jumbling different scenes and make the audience piece it together with no apparent reason.
A few notable mentions would be how Henry Cavill actually sounded like the animated version of superman in the Justice League franchise and how Amy Adams is such a pretty face to have in an otherwise chaotic movie.
The retrospective trailers clearly oversold yet another almost typical summer blockbuster but if compare to it's 2009 Superman Returns, this was much better. You will find this emotionally engaging if you are one that sympathizes easily but once you think about it later on you would realize that it was not enough to get you crying or feeling heartbroken for the conflicts that the Man Of Steel encounters ( trust me, he has far worst issues than those addressed in the movie.
What ticks me off was the overblown budget used in the CGI, it was overwhelming to the extent that it suffocates and did not match well with the other half of the movies atmosphere. It's a fail safe for the film makers and I am not event blaming the directors, it's just business here. "let's have him punch throw a few buildings and blow up a gas station" for no good reasons.
Other than a smokescreen of explosions and chaos, you can't find yourself to see one pure good and fun action sequence that is memorable. It's not even dark, it's just bland.
"You will still watch it so why bother worrying if it's good or not? It just got drowned by it's own oversold gimmick and that damn credits is freaking long! "
Note*: As many would ask, there is NO After or mid Credit scenes.
Title: Monster University
Genre: Comedy/ Animation
Running Time: 111 Minute
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other.Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.- GSC
The formula was right, you got your monster twist to an otherwise mundane college teen flick with the same equation. The jock, the brains, the evil rival and the random group of misfits that somehow becomes your best friend. Throw in a few jokes and sprinkle on some vibrant colors and let animation do it's magic.
Monster University is enjoyable to all ages, it has great comedic timing, interesting type of monsters and didn't try much to mess around with the college formula I mentioned earlier and it provided an ok backstory to the iconic Mike Wazowski and James. P. Sullivan.
Ignoring the obvious fact that this was probably one of those money squeezing films just because they forgot to milk the successful Monster Inc. 12 years ago. ( it would make much more sense to have this first before Monster Inc. at least I would look forward to Monster Inc, after watching Monster University and not vice versa)
The thing that was missing in Monster University was the rival University, mentioned about 3 -4 times in the film was the name FEAR TECH. I was hoping to see a unique competition between these two Universities because it would have been much nicer to see MU students banding together being led by our protagonists against their fierce sounding competitor. ( I mean... wouldn't you be curious to see what kind of monsters are in FEAR TECH?)
It still has it's moments and it was still enjoyable so catch it this weekend with friends and family alike, it's one of those bonding movies. :)
"We have 2 in the bag now so let's hope they don't completely ruin the magic with a third one with a love story and rivalry between Mike and James to get the girl alright?"*Note:- Watched this at MBO Citta Mall, the quality of the movie visually was quite clear as compared to the run downed GSC projectors and could be on par with TGVs newly opened ones as well. But I think it is around an extra RM2 per ticket.

Title: Now You See Me
Genre: Mystery/ Crime/ Action
Running Time: 116Minute
An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.- IMDB
What do I think about it:-
A fancy blend of the Ocean's 11 franchise themed around illusionists and magic tricks.
A story line that is quite entertaining and most of the time fast paced allowing little time for any audience to be pondering too long on what's happening + a star studded cast of familiar faces that were very used to working with one another develops the story into some that is fun but not as astounding as the trailer shows it to be.
The excessive plot twists were a little too messy to my liking and could be better written to create a more fluid sequence to an otherwise mind blowing movie that seems to try to confuse us with tricky swirling camera angles and fast movement and actions ( but perhaps the whole movie was a magic trick itself)
Several overly exaggerative mechanics and visuals that was not explain clearly seemed inappropriate but uit was all for good show as the movie emphasizes.
It's very much watchable althought the quick and all too convenient ending sort of let off some steam. It would probably be your best Sunday movie for the week.
"Easily entertaining and you would probably be caught in the movie as it begans just like a magic trick. It's not smart but it is entertaining and amusing."- benjaminfoo.
Title: Hangover Part 3
Running Time: 100 Minute
When one of their own is kidnapped by an angry gangster, the Wolf Pack must track down Mr. Chow, who has escaped from prison and is on the lam. The clock that was set in motion back in Vegas is closing in on their time now. - IMDB
What do I think about it:-
There are 2 things I like about the movie.
No.1 - It's finally ending as in... a 4th won't be coming out till I die.
No.2 - Cocaine Sniffing Roosters
After that, the whole movie should be zip locked and launched into deep space. We lost what ever magic we had in the first movie in the 2nd movie and they are rubbing salt on our wounds with the 3rd movie.
The production team, the directors, the actors and the writer were the ones that seemed to be in a complete hangover state. The humor and surprises were clearly missing and all you have left is a couple of viciously distasteful gags and Ken Jeong's even more hated performance now.
You are going to watch it anyway just to wrap things up so prepare to have a somewhat void unfilled feeling or it would be better to just download it and watch at home aite?
Mid Credit Scenes: There will be a mid credit scene around half a minute into the credits, showing yet another messed up room, random and chaotic much like the previous movies where they first woke up from the night. It leads to no 4th movie, probably just one last go at it.
"Whatever magic that happen in the 1st movie, its NEVER coming back"-benjaminfoo
